Pianist Edit-Maria Fazakas was born in Bucharest, Romania, where she began her piano studies at the age of five. She made her debut in a recital at the age of six, and immediately began to win important prizes in more than 25 national and international competitions. At only seven years old, she won her first international piano competition, Rovere d’Oro in Italy. At the age of 11, Edit made her orchestral debut with the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Orchestra, playing the Haydn D Major Concerto under
Ludovic Bacs. Competition victories in her native country include the Carl Filtsch International Piano Competition, the Ina Macarie Competition, the Pro
Piano-Romania International Contest and the
International Jeunesses Musicales Competition. Her
top prize in the “Remember Enescu” Competition holds special meaning for her, since she is related to the great composer and violinist George Enescu. She was a laureate in the National Romanian Olympics Competition for six consecutive years.
The young artist has performed in recital throughout Europe, including major musical centers. In Austria she played in Salzburg’s “Wiener Saal”. She was selected by the Romanian Government to represent the country in concerts throughout Germany, including performances at the World Exhibition in Hannover in 2000. She also played in concerts throughout Italy, Belgium, France, the United Kingdom and Japan. Other engagements include recitals in two editions of the “George Enescu International Music Festival” in Bucharest. She has performed and been selected for Master Class appearances at the Mozarteum Summer Academy, Piano Texas in Fort Worth and the Tel-Hai International Piano Festival in Israel. Ms. Fazakas has appeared in Radio and Television broadcasts throughout Europe and in Japan. She has also made a number of recordings for the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company, performing a wide repertoire.
Edit Fazakas studied at the National University of Music in Bucharest with Professor Vlad Dimulescu. In 2005 she entered the Oberlin Conservatory of Music where she received her Bachelor of Music Degree, studying with Prof. Peter Takacs. While at Oberlin she received the Dean’s Talent Award, and performed the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No.1 with the Oberlin Orchestra conducted by Konstantin Dobroykov. Since September 2008 she has been a student of Michael Lewin in the Master of Music program at The Boston Conservatory, where she received the Lewitus Scholar Award. In January 2009 she won The Boston Conservatory Concerto Competition, earning a performance of the Rachmaninoff “Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini” with the Conservatory Orchestra under Bruce Hangen in Harvard University’s Sanders Theatre
